BENGALURU: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has given a clean chit to former excise minister H Y Meti in connection with the sex CD tape. The probe agency said that it might be a political plot to malign his image. In its 8-page report submitted to the state home department on May 17, the CID said they could not conclude that the CD was genuine. The state government had earlier directed the CID to investigate whether the sex tape was genuine.CID officials said that it might be the handiwork of local politicians.

“We investigated whether the CD was doctored or genuine. We collected videos from many media agencies but we were not able to get the genuine tape. All of them were edited and none was the original video. We could not confirm the video was genuine due to lack of evidence. But, there seems to be a planned conspiracy to malign Meti’s image,” said a CID official.Sources in CID added: “During the investigations, the woman in the video said she and Meti shared a relation like daughter and father and she denied being sexually assaulted. No complaint was also filed in this regard.”

“The Forensic Science Laboratory in its report confirmed that the videos were edited and there was no technical evidence to prove it was a genuine video,” the sources said.On December 14, a section of electronic media aired a video in which Meti and a woman were allegedly having sex in his office. Meti later resigned as excise minister.

On December 17, the woman filed a complaint against district armed reserve constable Subash Mulukoda, BJP worker Ashok Lagakoti, Maruti Virajkar, Siddalingesh Ambalagatti for threatening her to level sexual assault allegations against Meti. Later, she also filed a complaint in Navanagar police station. A case was registered under IPC sections 143, 241, 354 (a), 366, 109, 120 (b). 504 and 307 and investigation is on.

CID questioned social activist Rajashekar Mulali, a former BJP minister, Subash Mugukoda, Ashok Lagaloti, Maruti Virajkar, Siddalingesh Ambalagatti and four media persons during investigation.
