Mangaluru: A 27-year-old woman died of excessive bleeding after giving birth to twin babies at a private hospital in Mangaluru on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Poojitha, wife of Manoj, who is a resident of Mundya Kemmathadka village near Nettanige Mudnooru village in Puttur taluk.

Poojitha, who was admitted to a hospital in Puttur, gave birth to twins on Sunday morning. Poojitha was shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru after Poojitha begun bleeding.

Despite undergoing surgery, Poojitha did not respond to treatment and breathed her last on Sunday evening. The twin babies, a boy and a girl, are healthy, hospital staff in Puttur said.

Poojitha had recently cleared her B Ed examinations with distinction.
