Mangaluru: The Second Additional Sessions Court and Special Court on Monday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexual assault of a minor.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convicted Santhosh, who is a resident of Sajipamunnur in Bantwal. Of the total fine, the court had ordered that an amount of Rs 7,500 should be paid to the victim.

Santhosh had befriended a minor girl. In July 2014, he had taken her to a secluded area and sexually assaulted her. Santhosh had also warned the girl of dire consequences if she revealed the issue to anyone. and continued to sexually assault her for several months. As a result, she became pregnant and delivered a baby on July 28, 2015.As a part of the investigation, the DNA test of the baby and the accused was also conducted.
