Mangaluru: Man, his parents booked in child marriage case

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district police have booked a man, his parents, and victim’s parents in a child marriage case. The case was registered at the Kadaba police station on Thursday.

Police said that a case has been booked under the Prevention of Child marriage Act 2006, Pocso and Indian Penal Code Section 376 (rape) against the accused.

According to police, a man from Kombaru Bhuvaneshwara had married a child victim in February, who was just 17. It was an arranged marriage. When victim went for a check up at Shirday Primary Health Centre, tests showed she was pregnant. During the age verification of the victim, documents showed that she was a minor. Immediately, it was brought to the notice of Child and Women and Child Protection Committee of local Kombaru panchayat, and also the women and child development department.

Based on the observation that the victim is a minor and forced into child marriage, president of the Women and Child Protection Committee, Kombaru panchayat, has filed a case at the Kadaba police station. Police said that they are yet to arrest the accused.
