Mangaluru: A day after the completion of Nagara Darshana scheme carried out to ensure free flow of traffic and hassle-free movement for pedestrians in the city, actions were taken by the Mayor Kavita Sanil on 28th July, Friday to recover land that builders had failed to hand over to the Mangaluru City Corporation after relinquishing them for roads.
A team of corporation officials, including Commissioner Mohammed Nazir was led by the mayor to recover land on ‘Mission Street’ near Rao and Rao Circle. During the process, an earth-mover and a truck were requisitioned by the mayor.
The earth-mover razed through an old compound wall and a makeshift toilet, which were built upon the land relinquished by South Canara Agricultural Co-op Marketing Soceity for Mission street while getting licence to build a commercial complex in August 2012.
Addressing the reporters, the mayor said, “The society had failed to hand over the land to the corporation. The society was one among the many in the city who have failed to hand over possession of the land that had been relinquished to the corporation by singing a deed”. “I am not allowing this to continue and I am taking possession of these land,” she added.
Ms. Sanil said that notices have been issued to all those who have failed to hand over possession of land relinquished to the corporation.
