Mangaluru: An incident was reported here, where a private hospital refused to hand over the dead body of a youth to his family until the bills were cleared.

The deceased youth Rasheel Salian (25 yrs) s/o Ramakrishna of Attavar was suffering from Pneumonia and even after various treatments he could not survive and breathed his last on 18th September, Monday. However the bill at the hospital amounted to Rs. 8 lakhs.

As Ramakrishna was not able to arrange for such a big sum immediately, he requested the hospital to release the body of his son, duly promising to clear off the balance dues in a few days. But the hospital declined and told him to pay the full bill amount first. Due to this, the body remained at the hospital for around three days.

The volunteers of the social organization ‘Yuva Vahini’ arrived at the hospital on Wednesday led by Sunil Kumar Bajal and insisted the hospital to release the body.

After a long discussion between the organization and the hospital, the body was finally released with the condition that the balance due must be paid within a month.
