Mangaluru: The National Highway 75 between Mangaluru and Bengaluru has been included into the ambitious 'Bharatmala project' of the department of road transport and highways.

The new project will be replacing the existing highway projects and the road from here to the capital city of Karnataka will be turned into high speed, eight lane road.

According to this futuristic plan of the Central government, an investment of Rs. 1.2 lakh crore is estimated if this is to occur. This project will be implemented either by National Highways Authority of India or Central Road Research Institute.

As per the government, the work of developing the roads regarding the project will be taken up within the next three to four months. It is gathered that these roads will be built in a way that avoids potholes, humps, etc and in order to avoid these in ghat areas of the road, rubberized tar will be used.

It is learned that if the roads are built, the current time needed to reach Bengaluru from here will be reduced to four to five hours. As per the present plan, the road will be on the current route of the highway, but will have only two toll-gates at the beginning and the end.

The estimated time for the road to be completed is five years.
