Mangaluru: Sharath (28), who was attacked by unknown men with lethal weapons on the night of Tuesday at B.C. Road, was declared dead at a private hospital here on Friday.

Sharath, owner of Udaya Laundry at B.C. Road, was preparing to go home after finishing the day’s work on Tuesday when he was attacked with sharp weapons.

Immediately, he was rushed to a nearby private hospital and later shifted to another private hospital in the city.

The attack on Sharath further escalated tension in the Mangaluru-Bantwal region which was under turmoil since about a month following attacks and counter attacks on religious grounds. The tension that prevailed in Kalladka town in Bantwal taluk extended to B.C. Road following the murder of Ashraf Kalai a fortnight ago.

Sharath is said to be a volunteer of the RSS and the Sangh Parivar has charged the government with not taking action against forces working against it.
