Karwar: Two persons were arrested for allegedly assaulting Karwar city municipality councilor Ratnakar Naik on 14th August, Monday. They were accused of the charges of assaulting him using a knife and had injured grievously.
The accused were identified as Raghav, a president of students Union and another one as Shabbir Pasha.
According to sources, it is reported that Raghav had alerted in municipality regarding the lack of developmental work in ward no 14. Observing this, councilor Ratnakar Naik objected him through a phone call. It is also said that previously there was always some form of dispute between Raghav and Ratnakar. In this heating dispute, the matter gave an ugly turn after Raghav's complaint in the municipality and both met each other with hot arguments at the Maladevi ground in Karwar. The arguments gave an ugly turn after Raghav and Shabbir assaulting and injured councilor Ratnakar Naik using the knife which they had brought with them.
Police said that both the assaulters were taken into custody and has filed the case against them. Further investigations are on.
