Man loses Rs 1.4 lakh to online fraudsters

Karwar: A man from Gokarna lost Rs 1.4 lakh to an online fraudster recently.

Nagaraj Gayitri of Gokarna recharged his mobile phone (Jio sim) through his credit card. Though the recharge amount got debited from his bank account, his mobile phone was not recharged. So, he called the customer care centre of Jio. However, he did not receive proper response for his grievance.

Sometime later, a man called Nagaraj and identified himself as a staff member from the Jio customer care centre. He asked Nagaraj to download 'Anydesk app' on his mobile phone to get the amount back. Believing him, Nagaraj downloaded the app. After that, the fraudsters managed to get Rs 94,000 transferred from his SBI account and Rs 46,000 from Axis Bank account.

A case in this connection has been lodged with District Cyber crime, Economic offences & Narcotics station.

Another crime

In another incident of cyber crime, Narayan Moger, a resident of Hebale Hertar in Bhatkal, received a call from an unidentified person who claimed that he was the manager of Canara Bank. He told Moger that his ATM card had been blocked and managed to get the ATM card number and OTP and got Rs 74,000 transferred. A case in this connection has also been lodged with District Cyber crime, Economic offences & Narcotics station.
