Bhatkal: A person has been arrested by the Railway police at Bhatkal railway station for stealing baggage from travellers on moving train.
According to the report submitted by railway police, Sub-inspector Rajesh Kumar Dubey and Constable A Maruti caught a thief red-handed at Madgaon-Mangaluru intercity express while stealing a baggage. However, the thief managed to escape and jumped from the moving train on platform No 2 of Bhatkal railway station.
Later, the police followed and nabbed him. On inquiry, they identified the culprit as Naresh Shanta Ram (28 yrs) of Ratnagiri District. It was found that the bag stolen by Naresh belonged to N S Prakash of Bengaluru.
The railway police informed Prakash about the bag on a phone call. It was learned that Prakash had already filed a missing complaint. He collected his bag from Bhatkal railway station after presenting a copy of the FIR to the police.
After further interrogation regarding the case, the culprit was handed over to Bhatkal town police station. After filing a case, further investigations are being conducted by PSI Parameshwar.
