Karwar: Call to create awareness to check spread of malaria

Karwar: District Vector-borne disease control officer Dr Ramesh Rao has stressed the need to create awareness among people to check the spread of malaria.

He was speaking at the Anti-Malaria Month programme was organized at the Anti-Malaria Month proramme organized at the auditorium of District health and Family Welfare apartment in Karwar on Tuesday.

He said usually it rains heavily during June and July. Stagnant water in various places become breeding grounds for mosquitos. Hence, everyone should take care that water does not stagnate.

The female anopheles’ mosquito spread malaria. The disease has been controlled in all the districts of the State. In 2004, more malaria cases were identified in Bagalkote, Gadag, Kalaburgi, Yadgiri, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.

The number of Malaria cases down in Uttara Karnataka districts. In 2015, 86 malaria cases were identified. This year till May end, 14 cases have been found. In this district, malaria has been found mostly in migrants, he informed.

A person suffering from malaria experiences chills, fever and sweating. The symptoms may occur every day or on alternate days. If people find these symptoms, they should not neglect their health and immediately approach a doctor, he said.

Earlier, CMC President Ganpathi Naik flagged off an awareness jatha taken out form deputy commissioner’s office. Government PU College students and Nursing student’s participants in the jatha.
