Karwar: A total of 8,654-litres liquor worth Rs 22.50 lakh seized during 109 raids conducted by police and excise officials in different places across the district was destroyed behind the excise district office in the City on Tuesday.
The raids were held under the limits of Karwar, subdivision and Majali check-post. The destroyed liquor included 3,319 litres of Goan liquor, 5,110 litres Goan fenny, and 224-litre beer.
Excise District Deputy Commissioner L A Manjunath said, there is no privilege to sell the seized liquor and other ingredients used to manufacture it. Hence, the liquor worth more than Rs 22 lakh was destroyed by the department, he added.
Deputy Range Sub Inspector Suvarna Nayak, Range In-charge Inspector Shridhar and staff were present on the occasion.
