Udupi: A disaster was averted by replenishing the depleting oxygen stock at District Hospital here, on Sunday.
On Saturday, there was only 900 liters of liquid oxygen. Tension gripped district administration, as the hospital needs 500 liters of oxygen per day. The arrival of oxygen from Ballari on Saturday evening made doctors in district government hospital heave a sigh of relief. The oxygen would be sufficient for another five days.
District Surgeon Dr Madhusudhan Nayak said that the tanker carrying liquid oxygen arrived at the hospital on Saturday evening and refilled the plant with 3,000 liters of oxygen. He added that if the Covid-19 patients requiring oxygen support increases, then the refilling may have to be done frequently.
Arrangements were also made to acquire 45 jumbo cylinders to meet emergency needs. An indent for the next supply was sent to the private company in Ballari.
