Mangaluru: A landslip next to Tunnel No 46 near Siribagilu station between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road railway stations on the Hassan-Mangaluru Railway line forced the Railways to divert the Karwar-Yeshwantpur tri-weekly express on an alternative route on Tuesday.

Train No 16516, which left Karwar at 5.30 a.m., had reached Subrahmanya Road at its scheduled time of 1 p.m.

However, it was diverted via Mangaluru Junction, Palakkad and Salem at 4.55 p.m. following the landslip, said a release from Southern Railway here.

While the line is under South Western Railway’s jurisdiction, Southern Railway, which caters to Mangaluru region, said that Train No 16575, Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction tri-weekly Express that left Yeshwantpur at 7.50 a.m., was detained at Siribagilu station.

A release from the South Western Railway’s Mysuru Division here said that the stranded passengers of Karwar-Yeshwantpur express as well as the Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction express were provided with refreshment. Provision for refund of fare was being made to those who wished to cancel their train journey, said S.G. Yatish, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Mysuru Division.

South Western Railway said that Divisional Railway Manager of Mysuru Division Atul Gupta, along with other senior officials, was supervising track restoration operations at Siribagilu.
