Kundapur: One drowns during an heated argument between two fishermen

Kundapur: In a quarrel between two fishermen in a fishing boat at Gangolli port, one of them fell into the river and drowned on 15th September, Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Prakash Poojay (40 yrs), a resident of Tekkatte in the taluk.

According to the sources, upon returning after the fishing trip on Friday, Prakash tied his boat through a rope to a SMP boat which was anchored nearby. An argument arose between Prakash and driver of SMP Boat, Chandrakanth regarding this matter.

The fight culminated when Prakash went over to the SMP boat and Chandrakanth hit him with a piece of wooden plank in a fit of rage. As a result, Prakash lost his balance and fell into the river.

Even though the locals rushed for his help, they were unable to trace his body in the river. His body was found on Saturday evening in the sea at Belikeri near Gangolli. A murder case has been registered by the police on behalf of complaint filed by his brother Soorya Poojary.

The accused Chandrakanth, a native of Bhatkal has been remanded judicial custody until 28th September upon being produced to the court.
