Kundapur: The police arrested a youth suspected to have murdered a woman for gain at Haregodu in Kundapur taluk.

The accused is Raviraj, a resident of Kuntamavu in Jadkal in the taluk.

Deep in debt

As Raviraj was in deep debt, he had visited the house of Gulabi on February 28 night and had asked her to hand over her gold chain.

When she refused to do so, he strangulated her to death using a towel. Later, he fled with Gulabi’s chain, earring and finger ring, said Udupi Additional SP Kumarachandra.

Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid and arrested Raviraj near a rice mill at Siddapura.

The police also seized a car used for the crime.
