Kumta: Police have arrested one person who was involved in duping an elderly woman by exchanging ATM cards and stealing Rs 70,905 from her account in the name of helping her withdraw money from a State Bank of India ATM booth. The accused was arrested from Mysore.
According to the information received, the arrested accused was identified as Kiran Kumar, originally from Belsand in Hassan district, but was residing in Giri Darshani Layout in Mysore district. The incident happened in February this year in Kumta. Police identified the suspect's face from CCTV camera footage of the ATM booth.
Police said that apart from confiscating the money that he stole by swiping the ATM card, debit cards of other banks being used for similar fraudulent activities have also been recovered from the accused Kiran Kumar. Jewelry too have been seized.
Kumta PSI Anand Murthy and his team led by CPI Shiv Prakash Naik participated in tracing out and nabbing the accused.
