Kumta: Marking the  culmination of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, Muslims in Kumta on 25th June, Sunday celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr offering prayers and giving alms to the needy and exchanging greetings and gifts.

Faithful flocked to mosques in large numbers to offer special prayers and namaz to mark the auspicious day.

People dressed in their festive best turned up at Jamia Masjid, where Maulana Minnatullah Qasmi led the prayers. Other mosques included Vanalli Jamia Masjid, Farooqi Jamia Masjid and other mosques for 'namaz', wished each other 'Eid Mubarak' and exchanged gifts. Prayers for peace, prosperity, and brotherhood were offered in special congregations across the mosques.

Islamic Scholars urged the devotees, who took part in the prayers, to dedicate themselves to Islamic tenets of peace, harmony, and brotherhood.

Traditional delicacies were prepared at the Muslim houses and were distributed among the friends and neighbors. Ecstatic children, who were gifted 'Eidee' (money) by parents and elders, were at the forefront of the festivity.

People also gave alms to the needy who had gathered around the mosques. Extensive security arrangements were in place, especially where large congregation took place.
