Varsity convocation would be held soon, but in online mode: VC
Dharwad: Karnatak University, Dharwad, has decided to conduct the undergraduate and postgraduate examinations in conventional mode where the students will have to write descriptive answers.
The decision comes following guidelines issued by the UGC, and the State Higher Education Department.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, KU Vice-Chancellor K B Gudasi said, the examinations will be held for odd semesters and the last semester of the UG and PG courses of the academic year 2020-2021. The examinations for the first, third, and fifth semesters of UG and PG courses will be held from August 16 to 31, he noted.
For the two-year courses, the examination for the fourth semester, and for the three-year courses the examination for the sixth semester will be held from September 1 to 14. There will be no second semester examination for the two-year course, and fourth semester examination for three-year course, he noted.
Those to be promoted
Prof Gudasi said, the students of even semesters (second semester for those in two-year course, and fourth semester for those in three-year course) will be promoted to the next semester based on the 50% of marks obtained in internal assessment, and 50% of the marks obtained in the previous semester, he said.
He said, the varsity, in view of the prevailing Covid condition, had earlier obtained permission from the government to conduct examinations in multiple-choice questions mode, but had to revert to the conventional mode following direction from the Higher Education Department. “As many as 1.50 lakh students have registered for the examinations in UG and PG courses,” he added.
Academic year from Oct
He said, the academic year 2021-2022 will commence from October 1, 2021. The offline classes in all the degree colleges for the present academic year will resume from July 26, by following Covid appropriate guidelines. The academic year will end on August 7. The teachers will help the students prepare for the examinations from August 8 to 15, he noted.
Vaccination
The vice-chancellor said, 99% of the students and teaching and non-teaching staff of the 263 colleges and PG centers coming under Karnatak University have been vaccinated through special drive.
With regard to the university convocation, Gudasi said, the 70th and 71st annual convocations of Karnatak University which could not be held due to pandemic and lockdown, and would be held soon online.
The varsity has sought permission from the Chancellor to conduct the convocation, and the green signal from Raj Bhavan is awaited, he added.
