Karwar: Deputy Commissioner K Harishkumar has stated that with the Modal Code of Conduct (MCC) is in enforcement in regards with the bypolls for Yellapur Assembly Constituency, the excise officials must initiate strict measures against the people who indulge in illegal sale and transport of liquor.
He noted this while addressing the Excise Department officials during a meeting held in the City on Tuesday.
The deputy commissioner said, special attention should be given on maintaining peace and harmony during the elections as Uttara Kannada is a border district.
A hawk’s eye must be kept on illegal transportation of liquor or goods. Along with Yellapur Assembly Constituency, strict measures should be implemented in other taluks too to prevent illegal activities, he directed.
Excise Deputy Commissioner Merunandan said, various teams have been formed in terms to prevent excise crimes. Including the district control room, four control rooms have been set up in Yellapur zone. Yellapur Excise Deputy Superintendent has been appointed as a nodal officer, he informed.
