Karwar: Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers arrested a man who was illegally selling railway tickets at Kurnipete in Karwar taluk recently.
Later, the court slapped a fine of Rs 6,000 on the accused identified as Arun Kumar of Hegde Agencies located on Kaiga Road here.
Based on a tip-off that railway tickets were being illegally sold at Arun Kumar’s shop, a team led by Assistant Security Commissioner Praveen Kumar raised the shop. During the raid, they found one post-dated railway ticket worth Rs 3,137 and 39 e-tickets worth Rs 85,867 which were unused. This apart, a dongle with Railway Department permit, Rs 620 cash, a mobile phone with Sim and other materials used for the sale of railway ticket were seized.
During enquiry, it was found that the accused used to get tickets by registering with different names on Railway Department website. A case was registered against him as per the Railway Act and later he was produced before the court. He was released after he paid the fine.
Konkan Railway Deputy General Manager B G Ghatge, in a press release, said that the cash and other items seized are in the possession of the court. The e-tickets have been confiscated.
