'Role of taluk magistrate is important' - says Govindayya

Karwar: Senior civil judge T Govindayya observed that the role of taluk magistrate is important in maintaining law and order in rural areas.

He said this while speaking after inaugurating a legal awareness programme for revenue officials at the deputy commissioner’s office, in Karwar, on Wednesday.

The motto of law is to ensure peace and tranquility in society.

The decisions taken by the taluk magistrate during times of tension, holds the key to establish peace. These decision if they are impartial and are lawful, then only these decisions will be found valid in the upper courts. If any decision taken in haste would be declared null and void, he said.

Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul, the revenue staff have to support their senior officials in getting accurate information on the incident.

Moreover, tahsildar have to seek the support of police and the general public while dealing with sensitive issues. Only, once the tahsildar has complete information on the incident, he can issue notices, he added.

 

No clarity on decisions:

Senior counsel K T Goud said, in many of the cases, the decision taken by the tahsildar holds the key. Unfortunately, in many of the recent cases, there is no clarity on the decision taken by the taluk magistrate and hence, they face defeat in court of law.

Senior advocate R V Bhat delivered a special talk on Land Revenue Act. Karwar Bar Association President Udaykumar Naik, Additional DC H Prasanna and others were present.
