Karwar: DC's tough stance against illegal water connections

Karwar: DC Nakul S S has directed  Municipalty officials to disconnect the illegal water connection in areas coming under municipal limits. He was speaking at City corporation progress review meeting held at Karwar.

The municipality has found that water infrastructure is being exposed to wide range of illegal connections which impacts the revenue of the regional establishment. 

Out of 98083 dwellings in the city, only 38572 has legal water connections. Karwar has 1583 legal water connections out of 15653 and Sirsi has only 7747 legal connections out of 16792. 

He warned the public and directed the authorities concerned to "either penalize or severe the illegal water connection." Municipality officers have been assigned to impose fine that are identified to have illegal water connections and regularize the connections adhering to the conditions placed by the municipality. 

The non-attachment of meters in Municipalties of Karwar, Dandeli, Sirsi and Bhatkal, Honnavar, Siddapur, Mundgod, Yellapur has impacted the local organization.

Facilities to Municipality employees

DC Nakul has instructed Municipalty officers to provide uniforms, shoes and bags to the Municipality employees every year mandatorily and to construct houses for the employees. Health camp should be held twice a year, he added. He warned the officials that case will be filed if any officials are found to be negligent in the public duties.

Under the Swach Bharat Abhiyan, out of 4682 requests for private toilets, 627 toilets have been constructed and 926 toilets are under construction. Besides, an amount of 104 crore was sanctioned, out of which 55 lakhs have been utilized, he said.
