Karwar: An incident of a private bus driver assaulting KSRTC driver was reported near Karwar KSRTC bus stand on 5th August, Saturday. The reason behind this confrontation occurred due to the KSRTC driver questioning the driver of the private bus regarding the overtaking matter.

The KSRTC bus drivers who were hurt by the assaulters were Chandrahas Bisanahalli and Ekanath. 

It was learnt that Chandrahas and Ekanath questioned the private bus driver about his negligence in driving while overtaking. This made the private bus driver and his agent Santosh Shetty drag the KSRTC drivers into their office and assault them.

Sources informed that the private bus belonging to Sugama tourist going to Karwar from Bengaluru attempted an overtake with the KSRTC bus which was going to Karwar from Muduga. The situation during the overtake was frightening, which would have caused a major tragedy with the KSRTC bus. Enraged with this, the KSRTC drivers asked the private bus driver about his negligence.

But, the brawl gave a negative impact after the KSRTC bus drivers were assaulted by the private bus driver after reaching the bus stand. 

It was shocking when the victims approached the police to file a case, but the police initially showed negligence in registering the complaint against the private bus driver. Enraged over this, it made KSRTC buses go off the road and its drivers gathered near Sugama tourist office and staged a massive protest. There was a tense situation spread in the area for a period of time. Studying the incident, police rushed to the spot and took the agent of the private bus Santosh Shetty into the custody and the protest was stopped. The other four who were involved with Santosh Shetty are absconding, for which the police have already spread their net in search of them.
