Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday granted bail for ten more people accused in Bengaluru's KG Halli and DJ Halli violence case. They were arrested under various sections including the SC/ ST Act, Arms Act, destruction of property as well as sections 395, 143, 144, 145, 435, 436, 447, 448.
It may be recalled that legal aid is being provided to the accused by the Secular Advocate Forum in collaboration with the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR). Talking to reporters in this regard, APCR Secretary Advocate Mohammad Niaz said that the names of the ten people who have been granted bail by the High Court today are Imtiyaz, Ansar, Mohammad Nafees, Aseem Pasha, Mohammad Arif, Shamseer, Syed Junaid, Syed Tabrez, Muhammad Salman and Mudassar Khan.
Advocate Muhammad Niaz said that 77 people are still behind bars, including 37 people arrested under UAPA, for whose release the forum is fighting a legal battle.
It may be recalled that in August last year, the mobs that ran amok in the streets of MLA R Akhanda Srinivas Murthy’s nephew Naveen for his alleged defamatory social media post, against the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), after which violence broke out in KG Halli & DJ Halli and also the mob then allegedly set fire to the house of the concerned MLA. Police arrested about 500 people in the case, and surprisingly, they also imposed the UAPA law on several detainees.
