Karwar: Shivram Hebbar, a contestant from BJP in the by-elections for Yellapur assembly constituency, registered a comfortable victory with a margin of  31,406 votes on Monday, December 9.

Congress had fielded Bheemanna Naik against Hebbar.

Hebbar obtained a total of 80,440 votes, while Congress' Bheemanna Naik managed to get 49,034 votes. Interestingly, there were 1,444 votes in favour of NOTA. The other contestants include JD(s) candidate A Chaitra (1235 votes), Karnataka Rashtra Samiti Party candidate Jaitunabi Jigaluru (443 votes), Uttama Prajakiya Party candidate Sunil Pawar (281 votes), and independent candidates Chidanand Harijan (413 votes) and Mahesh Hegde (301 votes).

It shall be noted that the by-elections for 15 assembly constituencies of Karnataka had went for polls on 4th December, 2019.
