Kannadigas working in Goa in quandary

Karwar: Even though the Union government has issued directives to all the States and Union Territories on free inter-State movement, Goa has gone ahead with its own set of guidelines for those entering Goa from other States.

As per the revised circular the Goa government issued on Tuesday, if an outsider has a Covid-19 negative report with him, he will be allowed to be in Goa for only 48 hours from the date of his Covid test. As a second option, outsiders can be in 14-day home quarantine. If both of these options are not fine, they have to pay Rs 2,000 and undergo Covid-19 test.

Hundreds of people from Karnataka borders who are working in Goa had come to their natives for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. But all of those people are in quandary as the fresh guidelines have been issued now when they are supposed to return to Goa. The issue has specially affected poor people who can neither afford the fee to undergo Covid test nor can be in home quarantine for 14 days as their employers can either cut their pay or even lay them off for being absent from work. Therefore, the local people have urged the elected representatives of the State to talk to Goa government to resolve the matter.
