Kali power project displaced seek relief

Karwar: The agitation by Kali hydroelectric project displaced of Supa, Bommanalli and Thattihalla, demanding employment, compensation and rehabilitation, entered 33rd day in Ganeshgudi.

“Nearly 30 people have lost their land for the project and Karnataka Power Corporation (KPC), had promised employment to everyone. Hence the agitation since June 30”, Committee Vice President Premanand Desai said.

“A meeting of evictees and KPC officials was convened on July 10, where officials promised to fulfill various demands including 5 percent employment. When evictees insisted written commitment, the officials did not agree. There are 40 participants in the fight and six are fasting. Among them Bhairu Gowli, Vishwanath Malakundi, Vinod Sudheer have undergone treatment at KPC hospital in Ganeshgudi”, he added.
