Mundgod: Mundgod police successfully solved a 30-year-old kidnap case and arrested a person who was absconding since 1987.

Madappa (52), son of Kodandaram, was arrested at Bellikurva village of Prakasham district in Andhra Pradesh on Monday. The accused was produced before a court which remanded him in judicial custody till June 24.

According to sources, Madappa, who hails from Gopinathpur of Kollegala taluk in Chamarajanagar district, came to Mundgod to attend a marriage party in 1987. While returning, he kidnapped a minor girl from Mundgod taluk and took her to Gopinathpur. Acting on a complaint filed by the girl’s parents, Mundgod police went to Gopinathpur and brought back the girl and arrested Madappa.

Later, he was produced before a court. After getting bail from the court, he absconded from his native place. Mundgod police used to go to Gopinathpur many a time in search of Madappa, but he was not there. He also used to change his hiding places. Recently, taking up the long-pending case, the court issued a fresh warrant against Madappa.

Mundgod police went to Gopinathpur once again and learnt that he is living in Andhra Pradesh with his wife and a daughter. He has been working as labourer at a stone quarry for the last 4-5 years. Police team headed by PSI LM Naik went to Bellikurva village of Andhra Pradesh and arrested Madappa. By arresting Madappa in a 30-year-old case, the police proved that ‘justice never sleeps’.
