Kumta: After the Deputy Commissioner of Uttar Kannada S S Nakul visited the landslide spot and annnounced compensaton of Rs. 4 lakh to the kin of each kid who died due to the landslide at Divgi in Kumta taluk on 11th June, the district incharge R V Deshpande instructed the IRB road developers to pay additional compensation to the families who lost their kid and to those who were seriously injured on Sunday.
In a press release, Deshpande stated that the company has been instructed to take adequate measures to ensure that such incidents did not recur in the areas where the four-laning of national highway is taking place. He said that the companies were told to take preventive steps after identifying landslide prone areas.
Compensation provided:
On Monday, MLA Sharadha Mohan Shetty distributed the cheques of Rs. 4 lakh from the state government and Rs. 2 lakh from the IRB company to the family members of the kids who lost their lives in the incident.
There were reports of seven houses being destroyed in the landslide and each has been provided with a compensation amount of Rs. 95,100.
The people who were injured in the landslip were each given Rs. 1 lakh from the IRB company.
Around fifty people are lodged at the makeshift centres including a few who vacated their homes and moved into the centre fearing another landslide incident and basic facilities including food and shelter are being provided for them.
“The village is on the bank of river and beside a hill. It is not safe here. I will discuss the issue with officials to shift the village from this place,” Shetty said.
The IRB Company has assured to construct protection wall near landslide prone areas.
Locals have demanded permanent solution to their problem, failing which protest would be launched against the district administration.
