Intermittent rain lashes Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru:  After a lull for couple of days, rain gained steam in Dakshina Kannada from Friday night.

Intermittent rain continued to lash various parts of the district and the sky remained overcast throughout the day.

According to the forecast, widespread light to moderate rainfall is likely over the Coastal Karnataka. Scattered to fairly widespread very light to moderate rains likely over Malnad districts in the next 24-hours up to 8.30 am on August 8.

Moodaru in Karkala taluk, Udupi district recorded the highest rainfall of 121 mm in the last 24-hours, up to 8.30 am on August 7. Eedu in Karkala taluk recorded 107 mm during the period. Meanwhile, DK district has received 2,351 mm of rainfall since January till August 7. From April till date, as many as 89 houses have been fully damaged and 498 houses have been partially damaged in the district.

The gusty winds have uprooted a tree and fell on the road at Perlampady in Puttur taluk and disrupted the movement of vehicles on the road. The local residents, along with Forest officials, cleared the tree to facilitate the movement of vehicles.

In the last 24 hours, 46 electricity poles were damaged in the district. With rainfall in the catchment area, the inflow of water into the rivers have increased considerably. The water-level in River Nethravathi stood at 6.2 metres in Bantwal and 27.20 metres in Uppinangady. The water-level in Thumbe vented dam stood at 5.5 metres.
