Incessant rain lashes coastal districts, houses damaged in Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi: Incessant rain lashed Puttur, Sullia and Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district on Thursday.

Dakshina Kannada district recorded an average rainfall of 8 cm in the past 24 hrs.

Udupi recorded an average rainfall of 8.1 cm in past 24 hours. Due to heavy winds, banana crop belonging to Krishna Nayak at Ellare village in Karkala taluk was completely destroyed.

A house belonging to Lakshman Nayak was partially damaged after a tree fell on it.

A house owned by Dinesh in Shivapura village in Hebri taluk was completely destroyed due to rain. The walls of a house belonging to Chennamma alias Marli collapsed at Bejoor in Byndoor taluk.

The beaches in Padubidri and Tenka Yermal also witnessed erosion due to huge waves.

A 56-year-old farmer drowned after he slipped and fell into Kelandaru lake in Puduvannuru village in Puttur taluk on Thursday. The deceased is identified as Ganapathi Bhat, a resident of Puduvannuru.
