Mangaluru: Enforcement officials attached to Commercial Tax department seized a huge quantity of goods that was being transported by evading taxes in buses plying between Mumbai-Mangaluru.

The goods were seized during inter-state inspection drive conducted on the stretch between Murudeshwara-Shiroor in Uttara Kannada district.

The drive was carried out jointly by officials from Commercial tax, Southern zone (Bengaluru) and Western zone (Mangaluru).

As many as 18 buses were inspected and the officials traced transportation of goods by evading taxes.

Sources said, "Huge quantity of goods were being transported in the buses. As many as 11 bus staff had failed to furnish documents for the goods being transported in the buses. The bus owners had been asked to furnish documents in order to get the goods released."
