II PU results to be out next week

Thu, 11 Apr 2019 13:11:31    The Hindu

Bengaluru: Most students find the long wait to see how they fared to be as harrowing as the examination itself. For second-year pre-university students, the countdown has begun with officials working towards announcing the results next week — two-and-a-half weeks earlier than last year. For the first time in recent years, II PU results will be announced before the Common Entrance Test (CET) is to be conducted, on April 29 and 30. The CET was postponed after its original dates were found to clash with Lok Sabha elections in the State. Sources in the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) said the results have been processed early this year as marks were entered online for the first time during the evaluation, for both the II PU and SSLC examinations.

“The exact date will be announced shortly,” said a senior department official. The department has urged candidates who have registered for the CET, but failed to clear their PU papers, to not give up. “Students can still write the CET as they can clear the subjects in the supplementary examination,” the official said. Nearly 6.73 lakh students had registered for the II PU exam. A total of 1.94 lakh candidates have registered for CET. Karnataka Examinations Authority officials, however, anticipate that many students who have registered for the CET may drop out.

Several students have welcomed the early announcement as it will allow them to secure college admissions faster.

The results were scheduled to be announced this week, but were delayed as P.C. Jaffer, who was the Director of the department, was transferred on Wednesday as Mandya Deputy Commissioner.

SSLC evaluation begins

The evaluation of class 10 examination papers began on Wednesday. However, nearly 14,000 evaluators across the State did not report for duty. The department has issued a warning to them. Evaluation work will not take place from April 17 to 19 as teachers have been roped in for election duty as well.
