ICG safely brings stranded Bhatkal fishermen to Karwar port

Karwar: The 24 fishermen of Bhatkal, who got stranded in the midst of Arabian sea near Netrani island on Thursday after their boat witnessed technical glitches, the Indian Coast Guard rescued and safely brought them to Karwar port on Friday.

Indian Coast Guard, in a press release, said, the ICG ship Kasturba Gandhi, which was on operational deployment in Karnataka Coast, was diverted immediately for undertaking search and rescue operation. The ship arrived at the datum at 20:00 hours on 10th September and established communication with the fishermen and reassured the presence of ICG. The fishing boat had lost propulsion owing to engine failure. In view of rough weather conditions in area, the owner of the fishing boat had requested DD fisheries Karwar for rescue of fishermen. Based on request from DD fisheries, the entire rescue operation at sea was undertaken in the early hours of 11th September. 

At around 10:30 AM, all fishermen in good health were safely shifted onboard by ICG ship. Therefore, the ship proceeded to Karwar port for handing over to DD fisheries, the release added.

It shall be noted, a delegation from Bhatkal led by Majlise Islah Wa Tanzeem too had reached Karwar port to recieve the fishermen and bring them home back safely.
