Bhatkal: Former Prime Minister of India and JDS supremo H D Devegowda on Sunday visited Bhatkal to campaign for Congress-JDS coalition candidate Anand Asnotikar in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Speaking here, he initially made it clear that he is not in the race for Prime Minister's post. He said that if by chance Modi becomes prime minister again, there will be a situation where the Constitution would be destroyed. I am saying this with experience. I can give many examples how the system has been destroyed in the country.
He asked the voters to cast their valuable vote in favor of Anand Asnotikar, who is a coalition candidate from Congress-JDS for Uttara Kannada constituency.
Mr. Devegowda further said that he believes on Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who has a good shot at becoming the next Prime Minister. "Why not?" he asked. "He has improved a lot after he became President. My expectation has grown a lot", he added.
"It is our responsibility to join hands together to save and protect this great nation and also save democracy and the Constitution,
He told the media here that though many leaders including BSP supremo Mayawati, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee , TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu and so on were eligible to occupy the top post, his party would support for Mr Gandhi.
On this occasion JDS General Secretary Farooque Bawa, JDS Bhatkal Taluka President Inayatullah Shabandri and many others were present.
