Honnavar: A 15-year-old boy, identified as Prajwal Gopal, went missing after drowning in the Sadalgi river in Honnavar Taluka on Wednesday. The boy was a student of ninth standard at Government high school.

Informing SahilOnline, Mr. Muzaffar Sheikh, a social worker from Sadalgi, said that Prajwal had gone down to swim in the river with his two friends. Suddenly, he drowned in the river and disappeared. Two of his friends managed to return.  The incident happened at around 12:30 PM on Wednesday in Sadalgi river under Upponi panchayat limits.

Police arrived at the spot as soon as the incident was reported. Until the evening, police with the help of locals and expert divers, tried their best to find the missing person, but failed.

It was reported that the search operation for missing boy had to be stopped in the night due to the releasing of water from the nearby Gersuppa Dam. It is learned that after the release of water from the dam at night, there has been a lot of flow in the river, so it is feared that the boy may have gone far away.
