Karwar: Electronic goods worth several lakhs were damaged at houses of Shejawad on Wednesday due to the sudden supply of high voltage. The residents blamed the 33kw sub-station, which was connected to grid recently, reason for the incident.
“At around 8:30 am, I was standing out the house when a big fireball fell down from the electric pole next to my house.
“The wire snapped and fell on the gate I was holding. Thankfully in the nick of time I took off my hand from the gate, else would have died,” said Krupali, a homemaker residing in the area. “I rushed into the house only to see, the TV set, stabiliser, set-top box and other electronic goods burning,” she said.
Similar incidents were also narrated by residents of the area, where people have lost water geyser, mixer, and others.
The resident said that the accident took place as the Hescom officials have not taken up the earthing work properly.
They also said that one-and-half years ago they had opposed setting up of the grid here fearing such incidents taking place. Yet, the Hescom officials set up the substation, they said and added that in the last one-and-half years the power lines have snapped thrice.
The residents have been demanding the officials to fix the problems. “The officials will not take responsibility in case of any untoward incident,” he said.
