Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V said that all modern facilities will be provided at the APMC yard in Baikampady, to convert it into a fullfledged market.
Speaking after chairing a meeting with traders and elected representatives at the APMC yard, he said the APMC has already provided facilities.
In addition, cold storage facilities, godown to store vegetables and fruits will be developed.
He directed the officials to prepare an action plan for the basic facilities in APMC yard. Using the funds from smart city mission, urban development authority and horticulture mission, good facilities can be provided at the yard.
All the wholesalers from Mangaluru will be shifted to APMC yard in the days to come. All the 44 traders who shifted from Central Market to APMC yard have been allotted with the stalls on a priority basis. The district administration does not wish to pose a hurdle to the business activities of the traders, he said.
He said as per the traffic police, more than 1,000 vehicles were arriving Central Market daily. After the shifting of the market, the traffic issue has been reduced considerably.
The deputy commissioner directed the MCC to initiate action against wholesalers who carry out business outside the notified area. Action will be initiated against those traders who engage in wholesale business with a retail license.
APMC license is mandatory for selling farm produce and MCC and local authorities should issue license only after the APMC license.
