Bhatkal: With heavy rains and floods continue to lash in Karnataka, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that coastal districts of Karnataka are very likely to receive widespread rainfall for the next three days.

Red, Orange and Yellow alerts have been issued in many areas in Dakshina Kannada. According to reports from various talukas, many residential areas have been inundated with rain and floodwaters. Many buildings, houses, farms and orchards have been damaged. The hillocks and compound walls have also collapsed in few places. Also, sea erosion is on the rise in many places, causing panic among the people living in these areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, strong and hurricane waves are rising in the Arabian Sea at a height of 3.5 to 4 meters. Hence, Orange alert has been issued in the entire coastal Karnataka.

The Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada has warned the people not to venture out on the sea and rivers at any cost.

In Uttara Kannada, with more heavy rains expected to continue, Orange alert has been issued. Tourists and the public are prohibited from visiting the beaches in the district as a precautionary measure in the wake of heavy rains along the coast.
