Udupi: Incessant rain continued to lash the district on Wednesday, invigorating the farmers who started sowing. The fear of sea erosion continued in Maravanthe, Kirimanjeshwara and Padukere in Kota and Padukere in Malpe. Two houses in Padukere in Kota may get damaged due to sea erosion. The locals demanded that the government construct a protection wall of about 400 metres, by placing boulders.
The Meteorological Department warned fishermen not to venture into the sea, as it will be rough and squally. Winds are expected to blow at 45 kmph to 55 kmph in the next 24 hours.
The weather has become pleasant, as the day’s average temperature remained below 25 degree Celsius. The rain also damaged property. The house of Sanjiva Poojari was damaged and that of Jayalakshmi Mogerthi of Kandlur village in Kundapur taluk was partially damaged. A tree fell on the roof of Vishwanath Moily’s house in Kasaba village of Karkala taluk. All these incidents occurred on Tuesday. Water is overflowing in Baje dam, owing to the heavy flow of the Swarna river and showers in the catchment areas in Karkala taluk.
