Karwar: A rough sea condition with high wind speed is prevailing over the Arabian Sea due to which fishing boats are not venturing into the sea from the ports of Uttara Kannada district.

Big fishing boats from both Karnataka and other States engaged which were in deep-sea also returned to the shore from safety point of view. In the port of Karwar, around 32 fishing boats from Malpe in Udupi district, over 10 from Mangaluru, 12 from Goa and 5 from Tamil Nadu have anchored as the Weather Department gave warning of rough to very rough sea condition in the south west and adjoining west-central Arabian Sea on Wednesday and Thursday.

Heavy rain

Meanwhile, the website of the Indian Metrological Department states that heavy rain can be expected in the coastal and malnad areas in the State as well as in Goa till September 7. High-pressure waves can be witnessed in the sea in this period and so fishermen must stay away from sea.

Assistant deputy director of fisheries Prateek said that heavy rain accompanied by wind will double the intensity of waves in the sea and so, fishermen need to be careful.
