Bengaluru: The vacation bench of High Court on Thursday granted stay of eight weeks in a petition questioning the transfer of Waqf Board offices from Karwar to Sirsi.
Petitioner, Abdulhassan Jamia Masjid questioned the shfiting of offices based on the recommendations of ministers Tanveer Sait and R V Deshpande.
The petitioner has said distance between Karwar and Sirsi is more than 120 kms and has become difficult for officials and public to travel so far to visit Waqf Board offices. He has sought directions not to shift the offices. Hearing the petition, Justice P S Dinesh Kumar also ordered notice to the Department of Minority Welfare, Haj and Waqf.
