‘Complete lockdown will be in force for five days’
Udupi: In a bid to check the transmission of Covid-19 cases, the Udupi district administration has decided to enforce full lockdown in gram panchayats that have reported more than 50 Covid-19 active cases from Wednesday (June 2).
The complete lockdown will be in force for five days. The public will be allowed to purchase essential commodities in these villages on Tuesday. The gram panchayats that will go for full lockdown are -- Shiroor, Jadkal, Kambadakone, Nada in Baindoor, Kavradi, Hombadi Mandadi, Koteshwara, Haladi, Idur Kunjnadi , Ajri, Aloor in Kundapura; 38 Kalathoor, 80 Badagabettu, Alevoor, Perdoor, Thenkanidiyoor, Bommarabettu in Udupi; Belapu, Belle, Padubidri, Shirva in Kaup; Mala, Edu, Kukkundoor, Kadthala, Marne, Palli, Nitte, Miyar, Belman in Karkala and Belve, Mudradi, Varanga in Hebri, Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha informed.
During the lockdown, all shops will also remain closed. People should not move around unnecessarily. Milk can be purchased between 6 am and 10 am.
People can come out only for medical emergency. Already, a few gram panchayats have enforced voluntary full lockdown as a measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha said that full lockdown will be enforced in those villages with more than 50 active cases.
Medical shops and clinics will remain open. Farmers will be allowed to supply milk to the milk societies during the period. The DC said that agriculture-related activities can be carried out. Petrol bunks functioning on the either side of the national and state highways can operate during the lockdown.
Those who violate the rules will be booked under the Disaster Management Act, Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act and others Sections of the IPC, he warned.
