Good response to lockdown in Udupi

Udupi: The 32-hour lockdown to check the spread of Covid-19 has received good response in Udupi.

With the surge in Covid cases, the public have supported the lockdown by remaining indoor.

There was no rush at the markets for the purchase of essential commodities. Only a few people had visited shops to purchase milk and newspapers in the morning.

The markets too were closed after a few hours in the morning.

The busy Manipal-Udupi Main Road, K M Road, Chitharanjan Circle, Tiger Circle and Diana Road all wore a deserted look. There was no restriction on the movement of goods vehicles and ambulances.

Only a few hotels had remained open and provided parcel service. Though pharmacies remained open, due to lack of customers, they too closed down after a few hours.

The KSRTC and private buses remained off the road. Destitute people and beggars were found taking shelter in bus stands in Udupi.
