Karwar: To keep beaches clean and tidy, Uttara Kannada district administration has imported a cleaning machine from Germany.
"The machine has been imported from German-based 'Beach Tech' company at a cost of Rs 52 lakh. The firm sent the machine to Mumbai airport through a cargo aircraft.
From Mumbai, the machine was shifted to Karwar in a container truck. The machine will be attached to a tractor that was brought at the cost of Rs 9.5 lakh and then it can be used for cleaning work. The machine can clean about five acres in an hour", said an official.
"The machine will be taking up cleaning works at Karwar, Murudeshwar and other main beaches of the district. We recived the machine and it has been fixed to the tractor and trial runs have begun. District minister RV Deshpande will inaugurate the machine on 8th July at Ravindranath Tagore beach in the city", the official added.
