Bengaluru: Graduates from Karnataka South East and West constituencies and teachers from Karnataka North East and Bengaluru constituencies can enrol themselves in the electoral rolls by November 6 if they wish to vote in the Legislative Council polls for these seats.
The Election Commission of India on July 31 announced the schedule for the De-Novo (afresh) preparation of electoral rolls with reference to November 1, 2019, as qualifying date for these constituencies for casual and normal vacancies, said Sanjiv Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) for Karnataka.
Addressing presspersons on Tuesday, he said the term of four members of the Legislative Council — R. Chowda Reddy Thopalli from Karnataka South East Graduates’ constituency, S.V. Sankanur from Karnataka West Graduates’ constituency, Sharanappa Mattur from Karnataka North East Teachers’ constituency, and Puttanna from Bangalore Teachers’ constituency — will end on June 30, 2020.
“The process will begin on October 1. While November 6 is the last date to file applications for enrolment (in Form 18 or Form 19 as the case may be), the draft electoral rolls will be published on November 23,” he said. The new claims and objections for the draft electoral rolls will be accepted till December 9 and the final electoral rolls will be published on December 30, Mr. Kumar said.
