Four people, including a woman, were killed on the spot and another suffered injuries in a head-on collision between a Toyota Innova and a private bus on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru Highway near Hassan on Sunday.

The driver of the car, who died in the mishap, has been identified as Shankarmurthy, resident of Sanjeevini Nagar in Bengaluru. The names of the other three are yet to be ascertained.

The five in the car were heading towards Mangaluru, source said. The accident happened around 2.45 a.m.

Vehicular movement on the highway was hit for a few minutes, following the accident. Hassan Police reached the spot and took the injured person to a private hospital.

The bodies have been kept in Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences in Hassan.
