Mangaluru: Four patients died after contracting coronavirus and 234 persons tested positive for the virus in Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday.

With the four deaths, Dakshina Kannada district’s total death toll now stands at 290. So far, 9,535 Covid-19 cases have been reported in the district.

Among those who tested positive, 92 were women. As many as 104 patients with symptoms of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and 18 patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) tested positive for Covid-19.

Thirty-four people had contracted the virus from primary contacts and the contact tracing of 76 people is underway. Mangaluru taluk topped the list with as many as 148 people testing positive to Covid-19 (Bantwal-29, Puttur-14, Sullia-13 and other districts-23). As many as 115 patients recovered and were discharged on Saturday.

The total number of patients discharged from the hospital is over 6,942. Four Covid-19 patients including two from other districts were also suffering from co-morbidities, a press release from Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V stated.
